What to do in Savannah with your Dog!
Hey y'all! We have had a busy month here at the Printmaker's Inn and are getting back on the blog train. One thing we are always asked by our guests is "What should/can we do with our dogs in town?" There are so many great things in Savannah you can do with your pets, which makes it a great city for anyone traveling with one. For one the weather is great almost year round and that always helps, especially since being outside is a must when it comes to having your "best friend" with you!

First and the most obvious choice for us at the Printmaker's Inn is playing in our great fenced in yard. We have almost a .25 acre of fenced in yard right downtown. Most of our guests that have pets love just hanging out in the garden and letting their dogs run and play. If our yard was not enough space to roam, we always recommend checking out Forsyth Park.
Forsyth Park is one of the most dog friendly parks in the city and it is HUGE! If you walk around the parks exterior it is exactly 1 mile. Just lounging in the park is a great thing to do on any day, but they also have a great little farmers market on Saturday mornings from 9am-1pm. Leashes are required in Forsyth Park, but most people do not abide by this. We always tell people to leash their pets just to be safe.
Savannah is one of the most walkable cities in America and reminds us a lot of a smaller European City or village. Since it is so walkable it is easy to just hang out downtown with your pet and check out the shops, cafes, restaurants etc. Most stores are extremely dog friendly and even have one of their pooches hanging out with them. Also, any restaurant that has outdoor seating, which is most in Savannah, usually allows you to bring your pet while you enjoy a nice meal.
If your dog is not worn out by now, then we have a couple more options for you! Fort Pulaski is one of our favorite places to visit period, but it is also great for dog owners. Fort Pulaski is an incredible intact fort from the Civil War and has miles of really cool trails weaving through the island. You can take your dog on all the trails within the park, which is run by the National Park Service, and even inside and on top of the fort. How cool is that?! One of our favorite trails is the Lighthouse Trail, which takes you through a jungle like setting out to the tip of the island and gives you a great view of the Cockspur Lighthouse. It is now a defunct lighthouse, but once was a pivotal feature for the South Channel of the Savannah River from 1857-1909.
Finally, there is one more great spot on the history side of things where you can take your pet. Wormsloe National Historic Site on Isle of Hope is a really cool old plantation that is also pet friendly. You can take guided tours of the site, which includes an old tabby fort from the 1750s and a colonial village. Throughout the plantation there are lots of trails running along the marsh and typical low country setting. Wormsloe is famous for its incredible Live Oak lined drive that is worth the visit alone!
